Get Started Early
Don’t let procrastination win. Get an early start, sometimes planning a month in advance can assure a smooth transition and make your entire moving experience more enjoyable. Don’t wait until the last minute to start planning for moving day.
Purge, Purge, Purge
The rule of thumb is if you haven’t used it at all in months, consider letting it go. Try and purge what you don’t need before you start packing. Why pay for someone to move it when it isn’t needed? Start purging as soon as you know you are going move. In the end a lighter moving day is a happier one.
Round up all the Good Boxes
Craigslist, is not the greatest source to finding Move Helpers, but it’s a great place to find cheap boxes and cheap moving supplies. You can also sell what your not moving there, and re-sell your supplies when your done with your move.
Cleanliness is Godlieness
Clean while you pack. No one likes arriving at their new home and the first thing they have to do is start cleaning what was packed for the move. Books left on bookshelves collect dust and old dust can be cleaned off before you get to your new place.
Label, Label, Label
No move would be complete without a labeling system. Myself? I like to label every side of a box because I don’t know which way it will be facing when it arrives at my new home. There are numerous creative ways to label your belongings for a household move. Some people get fancy while others stick to just the basics. Think of how you will unload when you reach your destination and if you’re using a moving company make sure you have labeled correctly; otherwise, things will be harder to find.
Ship it
We may be a moving company, but we want our customers to be frugal. If it’s going to cost less to ship the your belongings, then do so. It makes good sense that if it’s cheaper to ship then you should.
Save all of your reciepts
Saving all of your receipts for your move is just good practice. Saving receipts rules.
Season and Sorting
Sooner or later, you will need to pack clothes that either hardly get used, don’t fit, or don’t belong in the season. Pack these items accordingly so they are sorted prior to moving.
Make a First Night Box
Where’s the remote? What about that medication? Making a first night box can be a lifesaver when you’re moving. You can put essential items in it for those just in case moments or plan on the things of being some use, like a hammer.
Resell your Supplies
Now that you’re done with your move, you can re-sell your supplies if you choose, especially if you do not plan on moving in the near future.
